During the sketch phase, I played with the placement of a navigation bar, the shape of each flight card, and different drop down menu styles.

I noticed some hierarchical issues that made identifying key information difficult. By attempting to include both the departure and arrival locations, I was forced to reduce the overall text size.
In the end, I chose to limit what information I included on each flight card to allow for larger text.
color and type studies
When experimenting with typefaces I knew I wanted an authoritative yet approachable style. I landed on Gibson for it's legibility and humanist nature. My color palette was chosen for a similar reason, to provide clear hierarchy without coming across as harsh.
