Create a photo zine documenting my photography while traveling.
Over the summer I got the opportunity to travel to Colorado. We ended up spending a lot of time in Manitou Springs, a small mountain town outside of Colorado Springs. Whenever we ended up in this area, I took as many photos as I could to document the features of the area, and compiled them.
benchmarking
I first began this project by researching other photo books/zines, noting what elements and formats I enjoyed.
I liked the incorporation of negative space and borders to create visual interest and hierarchy. I also wanted to sample the use of text on top of images, possibly experimenting with legibility, as well as handwritten elements. Other examples utilized text containers, leaning more towards a traditional magazine format than a photo book.
sketches
During my sketching process, I focused on text and image in my composition. I experimented with the overlapping, separation, and orientation of text across the images. As I began developing these sketches, I also played with photo-only compositions.
